Graduate Handbook-Introduction

Welcome to the Department of Entomology at the University of Arkansas. We're glad you're here! All of us hope that you prosper here and enjoy your tenure with the Department, the College, and the University.

Although the main administrative and fiscal offices for the Department are located on the third floor of the Agriculture Building on campus, our Department's faculty members are found in a variety of places. In Fayetteville, faculty are both on-campus and at the UA Experiment Station (Farm) about 2 miles north of campus. In addition, faculty are located at the off-campus research and extension centers throughout the state, as well as on the campus of Arkansas State University at Jonesboro (view facilities). Student offices are in the Agriculture Building on campus, in the Cralley-Warren Building at the Farm and in several other labs.

This handbook is designed to provide you with information on policies and procedures of the University, Division of Agriculture, College and Department, as well as pointing you to the Graduate College for graduate program guidelines. Clearly, any handbook can not anticipate every situation or scenario; if you have a question or encounter something that "is not in the book", please ask for assistance.

You are a member of our Department. Already, we consider you a professional entomologist. As you complete your degree and move into the workforce or to another institution for another degree, you will be evaluated largely on your own record, but also on the record and reputation of our Department and University. Our reputation is based on the collective achievements, attitudes, and actions of every member of the Department – consequently, our reputation is interwoven with yours. We strive to educate you the best we can both in breadth and depth, and we hope to assure your success while you seek your degree here and continue your professional development in the future. We welcome that responsibility and hope you do likewise.
