Assistant/Associate Professor of Entomology

Position Title: Entomologist, Integrated Pest Management and Insect Ecology

 

Position Rank: Assistant/Associate Professor, 12-month appointment, Non-Tenure Track

 

Location:  Rice Research and Extension Center, University of Arkansas, Stuttgart, Arkansas

 

Appointment: 75% Research/25% Extension

 

Date Available:  March 1, 2012

 

Responsibilities: Develop an independent, recognized research program focusing on new management approaches to insects affecting rice and other crops as part of a rice production system.  The research approach to pest management will focus on insect ecology to enhance sustainable crop production, and may include habitat management, movement of insects among crop and non-crop habitats, the roles of insects in disease transmission and integration of pesticides with non-chemical tactics.  This position is open to entomologists with a background in IPM and insect ecology, especially applied ecology for management of insect pests.  The incumbent will seek extramural funding, train graduate students, and coordinate with the Director of the Rice Research and Extension Center.  Extension responsibilities will include responding to pest management needs of a broad array of agricultural constituents.  The incumbent will be located at the Rice Research and Extension Center in Stuttgart, Arkansas, and will be a member of the Department of Entomology faculty and of the statewide Extension Entomology program.

 

Qualifications:  Ph.D. in entomology or a related field (by date of hire), with a strong background in IPM strategies and insect ecology, and demonstrated excellence or potential in research and publication.  Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in extension or demonstrated significant interaction with agricultural constituencies.  Preference also will be given to candidates with prior experience in management of insect pests of crops, grantsmanship and collaborative research. 

 

Salary:  Competitive, commensurate with experience and training
