In 2007, the Isely-Baerg Entomology Club and the Department of Entomology at the university of Arkansas established an award to recognize an alumnus or alumna for his or her career, professionalism, and dedication to science. The award’s purpose is to recognize contributions made by alumni of the Arkansas’s entomology department. The honor will recognize and promote both achievement and professionalism in entomology and its related disciplines. Other goals include highlighting the accomplishments of alumni, enhancing alumni and graduate student connections, and highlighting the mentorship of current and past faculty.
The Award will be given annually to a degree-holding alumna(us) of the University of Arkansas, Department of Entomology. The Award recipient will receive a personal plaque along with his or her name added to a permanent display located in the Entomology Department. The award will be presented at the department’s annual fall social.
Eligibility Recipients must meet the following criteria:
- Be a degree-holding alumna/us of the University of Arkansas, Department of Entomology
- Have demonstrated high standards of professionalism
- Have established a reputation of distinction, excelling either in the broad discipline of entomology or in some related discipline. The nominee may be employed in any aspect of science (academe, industry, government, or private or public enterprise)
- Be willing and available to accept the award by participating in appropriate on-campus activities to recognize the awardee’s achievements, and present a seminar on an entomological topic of his or her choice
- Received terminal University of Arkansas degree at least 5 years before nomination
- Not be currently employed by the University of Arkansas
Nominations: Nominations are encouraged from all members associated with the Department of Entomology at the University of Arkansas, including alumni, faculty, departmental staff, former staff and students. Each nomination should be made on a nomination form (either paper or web form). The nomination form, a vita of the nominee, and an additional page of supporting material are to be submitted by the deadline of April 30. (If a vita is unavailable, the nomination should include highlights of the nominee’s career.)

Selection Procedures: A committee representing current faculty and students at the Department of Entomology will review the applications and select the winner based on criteria listed above. The award winner will be announced by May 31.
