John S. Heiss Fellowship
The Fellowship ($500.00) is granted annually to a graduate student (M.S. or Ph.D.) enrolled in the Department of Entomology, Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The Fellowship is presented in honor of the late Dr. John S. Heiss, a former student and employee of the department.
The following conditions apply:
1. The recipient must have an outstanding academic graduate record, 3.50 or better grade point average (4 point system) with a minimum of 12 semester credit hours completed;
2. The recipient must have demonstrated an aptitude for and an interest in research;
3. While holding the fellowship, the recipient's academic and research performance must meet or exceed standards set by the Graduate School and the Department of Entomology;
4. Former or current recipients of the fellowship will be eligible for future fellowships including receipt of the fellowship for consecutive years.
The application and selection process for the Heiss Fellowship is as follows:
1. A call for applications is issued by the Chair of the Awards, Scholarships, andFellowships Committee - June 1;
2. Applications will be received through July 15 and should include:
a. a letter summarizing the applicant's academic and research background and career goals,
b. résumé,
c. a copy of the applicant's graduate (University of Arkansas) transcript and
d. The applicant should request that three letters of support from departmental faculty, staff or students be forwarded to the Committee Chair;
3. The Committee will review the applications and prepare a recommendation for submission to the departmental faculty. The faculty will make the final selection;
4. The recipient of the fellowship will be announced at the annual fall graduate student meeting.
The fellowship payment will be made during the fall semester.
