Graduate Fellowships
Competitive research fellowships are available to new graduate students (M.S. or Ph.D.) enrolling in the Department of Entomology. Available fellowships include a Lincoln Fellowship and Doctoral Academy, and Distinguished Doctoral Fellowships. All fellowships include full tuition waivers. Program(s) may be in any area of entomology; awards are based on academic credentials. Doctoral Academy Fellowships
All applicants will be required to submit:
- All university and college transcripts, plus GRE scores (verbal, quantitative, and analytical scores).
- A resume or curriculum vitae describing the student’s academic background, work experience, previous awards, publications, grants or fellowships.
- A cover letter detailing the student’s research interests.
- Letters of recommendation from at least three persons (including applicant's major professor or honor’s thesis director if applicable) that describe potential in academics, research, and/or teaching.
We will select applicants with:
- Transcripts that reflect that the applicant has the ability to succeed in a challenging academic environment.
- Master’s GPA is at least 3.6 or if an applicant has not completed a Master’s Degree he or she must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.75 or higher.
- GRE scores (verbal plus quantitative) are at least 1100 and GRE writing score is at least 5.0.
- Resume, cover letter, and reference letters indicate that the applicant has a strong commitment to research and/or teaching.
Distinguished Doctoral Fellowships
All applicants will be required to submit: Same as for Doctoral Academy Fellowships.We will select applicants with:
- Master’s GPA is at least 3.85 or if a prospective student has not completed a Master’s Degree he or she must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.65 or higher.
- GRE scores (verbal plus quantitative) are at least 1200 and GRE writing score is at least 5.5.
- Proven research skills, as evidenced by participation in honors programs, completion of an undergraduate research thesis or Master’s Degree, and/or relevant work experience.
- Resumes that identify nominees who have undertaken a broad and rigorous program of study and have a strong commitment to research and/or teaching.
- Excellent cover and reference letters that indicate high motivation and enthusiasm and outstanding academic, research, and/or teaching potential.
Lincoln Fellowship
- There will be at least two (2) fellowships maintained each year providing acceptable awardees are available;
- The recipients must (a) be a graduate student accepted for admission to the Graduate School and (b) be prepared to or actively working on a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in the Department of Entomology, and (c) demonstrate outstanding academic, research, and teaching potential;
- M.S. recipients must have completed requirements for a B. S. degree with at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA, and Ph.D. recipients must have completed requirements for a M.S. degree with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA;
- Funds shall not be awarded to any student not meeting the criteria established above;
- The Fellowship will be withdrawn if the recipient does not meet these academic and research performance standards:
- Recipient must register for 9 credits/semester;
- Recipient's academic performance must be satisfactory (at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA for M.S. degree candidates and a cumulative 3.5 GPA for Ph.D. degree candidates); and
- Recipient's research performance is judged exemplary by consensus of the advisory committee.
